International Response[]

  • United Nations - Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Kai-Moon has condemned the fighting in Central Asia as "...completely useless and a war that could have been settled by using the peaceful institutions which were created to sort out this sort of dispute." The United Nations has condemned the fighting as the Security Council has met to determine the aggressor and determine if peace keepers will need to be dispatched.
  • United States - President Barrack Obama has condemned the fighting and has offered his hand in negotiating a ceasefire and an eventual truce to the fighting. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton canceled her trip to Russia to better monitor the situation in Central Asia.
  • United Kingdom - Foreign Secretary William Hague and Prime Minister David Cameron have condemned the fighting and have asked that a cease fire be negotiated before more lives are wasted.
  • Russian Federation - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned the fighting and asked that a peaceful resolution be discussed. When Lavrov was questioned if the Russians would involve themselves he chuckled and stated that "We do no involve ourselves in senseless wars." The New York Times have released reports that the Russians mobilized troops along the Kazak border in order to combat the influx of refugees.

Criticisms[]

Human Rights groups have condemned the fighting which some say is turning into campaigns against certain ethnic groups. Turkmen soldiers have been reported to be "cleansing" villages of Kazaks and Takistanis along the border. Amnesty International has condemned the war and has asked that the United Nations take a hard-stance to prevent ethnic cleansing. Marcus Smith, a leading American human rights expert has stated that "...ethnic cleansing in this area is relatively common and ethnic conflict tends to be far and few in between."
