The Imperial Royal Guard better known as the Emperor's Royal Guard or the Red Guard are the elite bodyguard of the Emperor. The Imperial Royal Guard was charged solely with protecting the Emperor and whomever he had decided. The Red Guard were technically apart of the Dark Side Adepts and could eventually be trained as Dark Jedi but were often provided rudimentary training in the Dark Side of the Force. All members of the Emperor's Royal Guard were force sensitives and were trained on Yinchorr.
While primarily tasked with providing security for the Emperor, the Red Guard were also dispatched throughout the galaxy to provide security for select locations that the Emperor deemed important. Royal Guards were rarely dispatched outside of the presence of the Emperor but if they were attached to someone, it was clear that they were important.
Structure[]
The Royal Guard possess no rank structure and only one honorific "rank" existed and that was the "rank" of Sovereign Protector. Sovereign Protectors were often force sensitive Royal Guard's who were trained directly by the Emperor and others and served as both messengers of the Emperor's Will and skilled protectors of the Emperor and whomever he designated. Sovereign Protectors were drawn from the elite of the elite of the Imperial military and trained endlessly to ensure that they remained at the top of their craft.
Specializations and variants[]
- Imperial Shadow Guard - The special operations division of the Emperor's Royal Guard. They were tasked personally by the Emperor himself and were often seen accompanying Inquisitors, the Dark Side Executor and others who hunted Jedi or incredibly secretive missions.
- Imperial Senate Guard - Trained as Imperial Royal Guards and often known as the "Blue Guard" they provided security to Imperial Senators and the Imperial Senate building on Coruscant; despite the dissolution of the Imperial Senate, they remained as loyal spies and guardians on Coruscant.
- Royal Guard Stormtroopers - While cloning was outlawed within the Empire, the Emperor had several Spaarti Clone Cylinders in use and produced an elite cadre of Stormtroopers that acted alongside the Imperial Royal Guard.
